Reality Based Training (RBT) Courses

The goal of our Reality Based Training (RBT) courses is to challenge everything our students have previously learned and find the points where technique has overtaken concepts and made their training ineffective. Reality Based Training (RBT) is accomplished by incorporating Universal Training Munitions (UTM) marking rounds into the training environment and transforming it from a square range to a truly 360 degree experience. Latent Force Reality Based Training (RBT) scenarios afford students the opportunity to experience realism in both “force on force” and ‘force on target” scenarios with either the pistol or carbine by pushing past square range limitations and developing skills, knowledge and reactive experience in unrehearsed and rapidly evolving “real world” scenarios. These courses truly redefine and revolutionize the training environment by integrating tactics, firearms and combatives all into one.

From years of conducting reality based training scenarios for law enforcement, we are bringing what we have found to be the best training technology, Universal Training Munitions (UTM), to armed citizens interested in taking their training to the next level. By using this advanced technology students will experience added realism and stress to their training by receiving a threat of realistic consequences along with other physical and visual stimulus in the training environment.

This block of reality based training bridges the gap between what happens in training on the range and what happens during the realities of an encounter with a criminal threat. Latent Force RBT courses allow us to introduce the UTM technology into the students training and evaluate the effectiveness of the concepts they have learned over time. Scenarios are designed with compressed time frames so students will have to apply their skills and make the correct decisions quickly, under stress and adrenaline in a full immersion training environment. These compressed scenarios allow for multiple opportunities for learning rather than traditional long and drawn out scenario training with less opportunities. This allows students to concentrate on testing and refining critical concepts quickly versus longer single scenario training that was done in the past.

Latent Force RBT courses make it easier for students to understand and apply what they have learned in real life scenarios - 360 degree firing, movement, malfunctions and transitions can all be accomplished with the use of this technology. Exclusive “After Action Reviews” of scenarios allows students to evaluate their performance and application of skills on the spot to find failure points and determine future training while in the safety of a training evolution. As a result students are able to go beyond what they ever thought possible and gain valuable confidence in the fundamental skills. The fact is, fundamentals are the foundation of tactics and failing to perform the fundamentals is what gets students into trouble.

Safety is paramount in our RBT courses and it is vital for effective training. We spend significant time in our safety orientation and have layers of safety protocols to ensure that our RBT course are a fun and safe training atmosphere. As a result of our dedication to safety we chose a product that creates a completely safe training environment. The UTM conversions are uniquely designed to prevent the discharge of traditional live fire ammunition. Even if live ammunition manages to find its way through layers of our safety protocols it will not cycle or fire in the converted training weapons because the technology doesn’t allow it to do so. Fail safe is achieved by an offset firing pin that essentially converts a center fire weapon to a rim fire weapon. Even if a round is introduced the rim fire strike of the firing pin will not detonate the round.

What are UTM Man Marking Rounds(MMR)?
The UTM MMR product is a revolutionary training aid that allows student immersion into the realities of armed encounters with a criminal threat and shoot or no shoot situations. UTM conversions deliver realistic and consistent weapon function and recoil and makes this as close to real life as students will ever get. This is accomplished by using a 6.9gr marking rounds (weighing less than a pair of foam earplugs) traveling at 375fps (5.56mm) or 335fps (9mm). Accuracy is within 2” @ 20yds for 5.56mm and 2” @ 10yds for 9mm. For a comparison, paintballs are 49gr and travel at only 300fps.
